Braided Traditions: Common Threads

Stratford Cross x Black Girl Knit Club Yarn Bomb 2024

Art and culture

Stratford Cross has partnered with local East London group, Black Girl Knit Club, to install their latest artwork “Braided Traditions: Common Threads”. The project celebrates the historical and cultural significance of hair within the black community. The first installation of artwork was curated by the incredibly talented BGKC members over a series of workshops, who were inspired by the form and creativity of black women's hair. It features upcycled material from industrial scaffolding, ribbon, tulle and other locally sourced repurposed textiles, wrapped around the steps and railings of our Pavilion building and surrounding trees.

The installation is free to visit and live until 12th April onsite @ Endeavour Square, 9 Endeavour Square, London E20 1JN.
